On Tuesday, July 4, 2023 in great barbecue weather, the board of CSDAC e.V. invited its members, guests and friends to the annual traditional “4th of July” barbecue, but this time in a new venue. Instead of the Findorff marketplace with “self-grilling” by the board, this time we celebrated the holiday in the Waldbühne–in the middle of the city park, the green heart of the city.
Our president Ulf-Brün Drechsel welcomed a festive society according to American custom with the opening of the buffet and provided some background to the Waldbühne–a very unique location in Bremen that was built in 1890 as a wooden pavilion.
Despite it being a weekday, over sixty members, guests and friends of the club took part in celebrating this special American holiday. Very attentively, the Waldbühne service team served us a traditional barbecue buffet, with beef and vegan patties from the grill and delicious desserts. Perhaps “un-American”, but “Bremisch” with freshly tapped Haake- Beck and Kräusen as well as Rote Grütze with vanilla sauce could not be missing.
Once again, we were able to welcome many students from our partner university Dickinson College and from the University of Colorado and the University of Bremen as well as the non-profit Constructor University together with lecturers and (guest) professors to the good-spirited event. At the many small tables in the uniquely decorated Waldbühne, an open, relaxed communicative exchange quickly came about, mixed in German and/or English – as befits such an event. With nice conversations and a cheerful mood, the time flew by and around 10:00 p.m. the last guests chatting on the outdoor beer garden tables left the location.
